SHAD Enrichment Program

If you are interested in focusing your studies in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, and have strong grades, SHAD could be for you.  It's a "premier summer residential enrichment program for grades 10, 11 and 12 students".  Learn lots, connect with other students from all over Canada, and have a great time!  There is NO FEE to apply.

Great Enrichment Opportunity at Waterloo


Waterloo Unlimited, at the University of Waterloo, is pleased to announce its 2015 -2016 high school enrichment programs for students from across Canada. Please consider passing on this information to students of exceptional potential.

 

Grade 12 Program | “Road Map to Research: Explore the frontiers of new knowledge” | Wednesday, November 18 - Friday, November 20, 2015 Application deadline: October 7th, 2015

 

Expect an immersive, pre-university experience focused on exploring cutting-edge research discoveries with professors, and the chance to engage with current student researchers. Also included: an introduction to the art and science of reading academic papers.

Program fee, includes all meals: TBD (2014 fee: $300) Supervised overnight shared hotel accommodation: TBD (2014 fee: $180)

 

 

Grade 11 Program | “Design” Theme | Monday, March 14 - Friday, March 18, 2016. Dates may coincide with some school boards' March Break Application deadline: December 16th , 2015

 

From engineering and the environment to science fiction and virtual reality, students will spend a week exploring the theme of design with a community of like-minded peers.

Program fee, includes all meals: TBD (2014 fee: $450) Supervised overnight shared hotel accommodation: TBD (2014 fee: $300)

 

 

Grade 10 Program | “Change” Theme | Sunday, May 15 - Thursday, May 19, 2016 Application deadline: March 9th , 2016

 

We live in the midst of change: technological change, social change, political change, environmental change. In modern times humankind has experienced an unprecedented rapidity of change. How do we adapt, or not adapt... and what are the consequences? Students will consider the perspectives of scientists, engineers, writers, and philosophers, as they examine the dynamics of “Change”.

Program fee, includes all meals: TBD (2014 fee: $450) Supervised overnight shared residence accommodation: TBD (2014 fee: $160)

Basic Details: 

  • application opens early October
  • $95 for 5 program choices (up to 3 programs at one school)
  • deadline is February 1, 2016
  • applications will be accepted after this date, but you are at a distinct disadvantage
  • apply online at www.ocas.ca
  • make sure you meet program requirements for programs you are interested in
  • see www.ontariocolleges.ca for specific program requirements
  • certain programs are considered competitive and have strict requirements COMPETITIVE COLLEGE PROGRAMS

ONTARIO UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS for FALL 2016

Basic Details: 

  • $150 for 3 program choices in Ontario  (can be 3 different universities, 1 university, or any combination)  Extra choices available for $50 each. 
  • Apply online by January 13, 2016.  www.ouac.on.ca
  • Responses from your applications will be received by May 27, 2016. 
  • June 1, 2016 is the earliest universities can require you to commit. 
  • as a current WCI student, your grades are sent automatically on your behalf
  • first semester final grades and second semester mid term grades are KEY
  • your top 6 grade 12 U/M courses are most important - other criteria considered depends on the specific program/school to which you are applying (Note:  "Open" level courses or Co-op course grades are NOT considered for university admission)
  • sign up for school presentations and attend university fairs/events so that you are well informed

Universities and other schools outside of Ontario or outside of Canada follow different timelines and guidelines.  Please do your research so you don't miss out! 


Looking for a great experience to enrich your French language?

A five-week intensive immersion program - at minimal cost to you.  Bursaries available for up to $2200.

On the evening of October 12, 2015, the family of the late Victoria Strehlau hosts an event that features Victoria's amazing artwork.  The works of Julia Crampsie, a 2015 Walkerville graduate, and recipient of last year's Victoria Strehlau Award, will also be featured.

Basic Criteria: 

  • attending post secondary (college or university) in Sept. 2016
  • 65% average
  • critical financial need (less than $55 000 annual family income)

Please note:  transcripts can be requested in guidance.  It is recommended that this is done well in advance of the posted deadline.  (minimum one week)

Loran Scholarship - 2015


Now Accepting Applications


Online applications are now open for the Loran Awards. Students can find out more about eligibility criteria, the application process and see a sample copy of the application form.

Each high school can sponsor up to three students for these scholarships, which are valued at up to $100,000 each over four years of university. October 21 is the deadline for sponsored applications.


If you would like to be sponsored by Walkerville, please submit a type-written letter, no more than one page in length, to the Walkerville Guidance office no later than OCTOBER 1.  This letter should include reasons why we, as a school, should sponsor you for this award. 

If more than three students are interested in applying, some can apply without sponsorship to the direct pool. Direct pool applications are due October 28.
